Sandton suburbs face water shortages despite completed repairs
Repairs at a key water supply station in Sandton were completed yesterday but residents in several areas are still experiencing dry taps as reservoir levels remain critically low.
Despite Johannesburg Water (JW) completing repairs to a key air valve at the Sandton pressure reducing valve (PRV) station, many Sandton residents are still without consistent water supply.
Reservoir levels remain critically low, and officials say they are still investigating the root cause.
The repair work, which required temporarily isolating the main incoming supply to the Sandton system, was successfully completed yesterday. However, the system has not yet stabilised, and the water levels at several key reservoirs and towers are still too low to meet demand.

JW teams are currently on site working to identify the issue and restore full supply as soon as possible.
Areas currently affected by the Sandton system include:
- Linbro Park (Direct feed and Linbro Park reservoir),
- Marlboro (Direct feed and Marlboro reservoir),
- Illovo reservoir and Illovo tower,
- Bryanston reservoir and Bryanston tower, and
- Morningside reservoir.
There is no estimated time of completion, and residents are urged to use water sparingly during this period.
