Wellness coach advocates for kindness, not stress
The local wellness talk by coach Clarisa Strack van Schynde reminded guest that real self-care starts with compassion and connection.
Too often, exercise is sold to us as punishment for not being thin enough, an endless slog to burn off what we ate.
But, at a recent holistic health fair wellness event, hosted by Sandton Spa, local wellness coach Clarisa Strack van Schynde urged guests to shift that mindset completely.
“Think about it, how many of us have been through something difficult?” She asked before hands shot up around her. She asked everyone to look around, proof that nobody’s alone in their struggles.
She explained that true wellness doesn’t just come from the body; it’s rooted in our mental health and our surroundings, too.

She compared tough times to seeds in dark soil. “It’s okay to be in the dark sometimes. That’s when we need sunshine, water, gentle movement, and kindness to grow again.”
She warned against punishing, high-pressure workouts that leave us more stressed, believing that light, restorative exercise, like mindful Pilates in small, caring groups, helps the nervous system reset.

“Your body can’t heal or lose weight if it’s always under stress.”
Small studios, she added, can adapt sessions to the day’s energy, balancing strength with calm. “It’s about more than the burn; it’s about community, self-compassion, and growing into that beautiful flower we all carry inside.”
