Sports summit highlights that your brand is your currency
According to Emma Sadleir, every woman in sport needs to be mindful of what they post on social media, because it will follow you for your entire life.
In a digital world, where one tweet can make or break your career, reputation management is not optional; it’s essential. That was the message delivered loud and clear at the Women Who Make Moves in Sports Summit, held by Momentum on August 8 at Illovo.

The two-day programme was not just about building athletic brands; it tackled the full ecosystem of influence, on-field performance, off-field image, and the legal and digital boundaries every sportswoman must navigate.

Emma Sadleir, founder of the Digital Law Company and a key speaker at the summit, didn’t sugar-coat her message. “Everything you post online is public, permanent, and can be used against you. Your digital footprint is your brand. Own it, or someone else will.”
Sadleir walked attendees through real-world case studies of athletes who lost sponsorship deals, team spots, or public trust due to reckless social media use. However, she also highlighted success stories of women who turned their online presence into platforms for both purpose and profit.
Her advice landed well with the athletes and others in the room.
