Brescia’s Potjie Day brings the heat and the heart
Flames, flavour, and family fun. Brescia House School’s much-loved Potjie Day brought together dads, daughters, and the wider school community for a sizzling day of cooking, laughter, and connection.
The aroma of simmering spices and wood smoke filled the air on September 27, as Brescia House School’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) hosted its beloved Dad-and-Daughter Potjie Day competition.
Held on the school grounds, the event drew an enthusiastic crowd of dads, grandads, uncles, friends, and Brescia daughters, all ready to stir up their best potjie recipes while bonding over flames and family traditions.
The morning was filled with energy and excitement, with interactive games and entertainment keeping everyone on their toes.

As the potjies bubbled away, the wider school community, including moms, siblings, and friends, joined in to taste, cheer, and vote for their favourites.
A panel of judges from the Swiss Hotel School, joined by celebrity chefs Chris Forrest, Chef Biggy, and Shane Mehlo, brought their culinary expertise and infectious humour to the task of tasting and selecting winners.

After much sizzling suspense, Team Kwa’Jobe was crowned Potjie Maestro 2025, with Team Vanessa and Gimbaz Delight taking second and third place, respectively.
The school’s head of marketing, Helga Bishop, said, “This event is more than just a cooking competition. It’s a celebration of the unique bond between dads and daughters, of community spirit, and of the values we hold dear: togetherness, joy, and tradition.
Every year, we see more smiles, more laughter, and more lasting memories being made.”
