Progress on reinstatement works at Pretoria Avenue and Katherine Street, Sandown
Road repairs on Pretoria Avenue and Katherine Street are taking shape, with key groundwork completed and new drainage systems being installed to secure the road’s future.
A small water leak that emerged in June 2024 at the intersection of Pretoria Avenue and Katherine Street in Sandown spiralled into a major issue, affecting local businesses and residents.
Now, reinstatement works are moving ahead at the busy Pretoria Avenue and Katherine Street intersection in Sandown.
The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has completed the rock fill pioneer layer, a critical step in stabilising the ground.

Crews are now installing subsoil drainage pipes within the rock fill layers to improve water management and protect the structural integrity of the road.
