Bryanston Parkrun keeps spirits high despite wet weekend
A muddy course and a week of rain didn’t stop hundreds of runners and volunteers from celebrating major milestones at this weekend’s Bryanston Parkrun.
Despite a week of steady rain, Bryanston Parkrun still drew 483 runners on November 29, creating a lively start to the weekend even in soggy conditions.
Run director Gregory Burden said the turnout was lower than usual, but the atmosphere remained upbeat.

“The wet weather put a lot of people off, but it didn’t stop the event from being fun and enjoyable, as it usually is.”
Burden highlighted the contribution of visiting volunteers Neil and Kirsten Robinson, seasoned helpers from Eswatini who have each volunteered more than 250 times.
“They were a great help today, along with the regular volunteers who show up week after week. We can’t have a parkrun without them. That applies to all the events in the area, Woodlands, Ernest Ullman, Delta Park, Lonehill, Innesfree Park, Atholl and the rest.”

This parkrun also carried personal significance for Burden, who marked his 100th volunteer milestone.
“It was a special day for me. I used to volunteer at Woodlands before Covid, so reaching my 100th today means a lot.”
Runners also celebrated their own achievements, including one participant completing their 100th run, another their 150th, and a young runner who received a certificate for finishing his 10th junior run.
He added that the recent rain left the course lush and muddy, especially near the bridge crossing the stream, but that didn’t hold back the energy.
“The grass is long, and the bridge area was muddy, but nothing stopped anyone from having a wonderful start to their weekend,” Burden said.
