Pre-Easter energy fuels strong turnout at Ernest Ullmann Parkrun

Local running community turned out in full force at Ernest Ullmann Park prior to Easter holidays

More than 300 runners and walkers gathered at the Ernest Ullmann Park this morning, lacing up their shoes for a 5km run just days before the Easter holidays.

Participants of all fitness level took to the course. From seasoned athletes chasing personal bests to casual walkers enjoying the social aspect.

For many, this particular parkrun held a special significance. With Easter approaching, and many going home to spend time with their families, some participants said they had to come sweat it out before travelling out of town.

One of the participants Xolile Kubeka said, “I couldn’t attend last weekend, so I just couldn’t miss this one also, especially because I won’t be around next weekend, I’m going home for Easter.

This was my chance to run in and wish everyone a happy Easter.”

Another participant who asked to be identified by her first name only, Angie said, “I almost skipped today’s run because I’ve got a long trip this evening, but I’m really glad I came.

There’s just something about this run, the people, the energy, you don’t want to miss it.”

The run director for the day, Jason Wood, said there is a strong turnout every Saturday and encouraged people to join them.

“We get roughly between 200 to 300 runners weekly and so this is now the week before Easter. We have no special events, we only have it on Saturdays, even during the holidays. If you are not going home and have nothing to do during Easter weekend, please feel free to come join us.”
