Dania Mbatha, a Redhill learner, has achieved a major milestone in her sporting journey after being selected for the U14 SA Indoor Netball Squad.

Dania has been playing netball since Grade 1 and said her passion for the sport continued to grow after joining the Red Panthers club in Grade 3. She later moved into indoor netball in Grade 5 and quickly embraced the fast-paced environment and strong team culture.
“From then on, I fell in love with netball and the team aspect of it.” For Dania, wearing South African colours means more than simply competing on court. “It’s about the pride behind it and the hard work that builds up to it. I want to show people what can happen if you never give up.”
Netball has also taught her valuable lessons about teamwork, discipline, and encouraging others. “Being in a team is to build up confidence, not break it down. When everyone supports each other properly, then you become a power team.”

Among the many moments she remembers from her journey, one humorous match experience during the Action Kids League still stands out. “I lost my balance near the circle edge and was stuck on one foot waiting for the pass. It honestly felt like the longest three seconds of my life.”
Dania said her coaches, along with her family, have played an important role in helping her grow as a player and as a person. She hopes to continue learning and developing her skills while inspiring younger athletes to believe in themselves. “Work hard, but don’t stress too much. Mistakes are how we learn. Keep pushing and never give up.”
