Motlatsi, reporting for duty

SANDTON – Meet your new Sandton Chronicle journalist.

The thought of becoming a journalist has always been on the surface and a dream of mine. I would constantly find myself pretending to be a reporter in front of a mirror and ask various questions to my imaginary friends while nodding excessively to add emphasis of listening.

At the time, I called it the great recipe of being a journalist. Thankfully, university taught me a number of lessons which shifted my thinking and approach to journalism. What I can say is that I don’t regret the decision on choosing this path.

My reaction when I got the offer to join the team of Sandton Chronicle was pure joy, excitement and shock. I felt like a character in a positive episode of The Twilight Zone. In fact, I still do.

I have asked myself numerous times what do I hope to achieve at being a journalist for the Chronicle. Growth and confidence, in a sense of knowing my way of developing a perfect local story. I truly believe that local news is the backbone to every stable community and area. I am truly excited to be given the platform to write for the best community and newspaper.

As time progresses, I hope to make a huge impact in the community through my reporting skills and lastly, to connect with the people in hopes of making their voices louder. The world of news would be nothing without the voices of the people.
