TV weekly must watch

We’ve rounded up three great shows you should keep an eye out for this week.

Start with a ground-breaking fantasy series about a young princess who battles a world-ending prophecy. Then watch a serial killer confesses to his gruesome crimes in unguarded interviews, offering an unsettling view into a disturbed mind. Or follow the untold story of how the two most notorious women in British crime, became lovers in jail.

Around a thousand years after the drowning of Atlantis, a new cataclysm threatens the five tribes of ancient Khemet. Their ancestors once fled Atlantis with bare backs and a handful of sacred objects. The rains have failed, signs and dreams disturb the night, and ghosts walk the earth. Meanwhile, an almighty power struggle is set to break out as the five tribes come together for a king’s wedding. As Princess Zazi of the Akachi approaches her 18th birthday, her father, King Letsha knows that he must either sacrifice her or see his bloodline and reign fall to dust. Watch Blood Psalms season 1 on Showmax.

You’ve heard the chilling tapes from Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy. Now, Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes dives into the case of one of America’s most notorious serial killers. Back for a third iteration, Conversations with a Killer uses never-before-heard audio interviews between Dahmer and his defence team to answer the big question: Why was Dahmer, who had been convicted of sexual assault of a minor in 1988, able to avoid suspicion and detection from police as he stalked Milwaukee’s gay scene for victims, many of whom were people of colour? The three-part docuseries not only delves into the killer’s warped psyche but also examines police accountability through a modern-day lens. Watch it on Netflix from October 7.

In Rose West and Myra Hindley: Their Untold Story with Trevor McDonald, this true-crime documentary sheds light on the time spent behind bars by two of Britain’s most infamous female serial killers: Myra Hindley and Rose West. As told by respected journalist Sir Trevor McDonald, it sheds new light on what happened to them after they were locked up. In 1995, West was found guilty of murdering 10 young women – including her own daughter – with the assistance of her husband Fred West. Decades before, Moors murderer Hindley had been convicted of similar crimes, including the killing of five children in the 1960s. Both were incarcerated in the “Hell Wing” of HM Prison Durham alongside other dangerous female prisoners. After the pair initially bonded, the documentary delves into their increasingly competitive relationship as they battled for the title of “jail royalty”, while exploring the psychology behind their criminal behaviour. From October 6 on BritBox.
