Benzo’s dream comes true

Music is a piece of art that goes in the ears and then straight to the heart.

Imali hitmaker Banele Sotomela, aka Benzo, continues to define the true beauty of music and make sounds that are medicine for the mind.

The Sandton-based artist has dropped his newest amapiano single, Isdenge, featuring the best music producer and DJ, Heavy K, and the soothing vocalist and songwriter Lu Ngobo.

Benzo is an Eastern Cape native who was raised in Butterworth. He said he discovered his talent and love for music in 2010 when he was at a music event as part of the planning team.

“One thing that led me to music is the love for good sounds and the magic that music has in terms of healing and making one dance.”

He elaborated that his musical journey had been good as he had received great responses from people.

DJ Tira is his house music inspiration, and DJ Maphorisa is his amapiano influence. Benzo said by staying humble and respectful of the industry has helped him navigate the South African music industry.

Benzo added the highlight of his music career was featuring Heavy K in Isdenge as it had been a dream of his to work with him.

“The song is about a woman who has had enough of her relationship including the trials and deception she has put up with.”

Isdenge (meaning fool), is the word she uses to express her decision to end the relationship.

Lu Ngobo sings the song and also wrote the lyrics.

“I love this song because so many people can relate to it and identify with it in terms of relationships and how it makes them feel about their love lives. I am extremely grateful that Heavy K and Lu Ngobo are part of this wonderful song.”

Lu Ngobo said this was a fun song to make and write about as it talked about relatable issues when it came to love and relationships.

“I cannot wait for people to hear this one. I enjoyed working with Benzo and Heavy K,” Lu Ngobo concluded.
