Odd Man Out opens to torrent of laughter at Theatre on the Square

Cape Town comedian Stuart Taylor had audiences in stitches as his award-winning comedy show, Odd Man Out, returned to Theatre on the Square.

Audiences laughed their lungs out as Odd Man Out with Stuart Taylor returned to Theatre on the Square on November 18.

Fresh from winning an Ovation Award at the 2024 National Arts Festival in Makhanda, Taylor delivered a night of hilariously awkward and relatable comedy that had the crowd roaring from start to finish.

“Odd Man Out sums up my life perfectly,” Taylor said. “I’ve always been that guy who doesn’t quite fit in, like a vegan at a braai. Shows like Learner Husband and Techni-Coloured tried to make sense of it, but none of us really have it figured out. That is where the magic and the comedy live.”

In the show, Taylor shares every hilariously awkward stage of life. From his teenage years as a magic-obsessed misfit, to navigating middle age in a gym full of fitness fanatics, to the chaos of parenting two teenage boys at rah-rah schools.

He also reflects on the trials of attempting to pass as a functional learner husband, turning everyday discomfort into comedy gold. “This is comedy straight from real life. People think their awkward moments are unique, but we are all the same kind of weird. I am just the guy saying it out loud.”
