Man hit and killed by train in Bloemfontein

Local police officers are investigating a culpable homicide case after a man died this morning.

The South African Police Services in Bloemfontien has appealed to pedestrians to be cautious and observant when crossing railway lines after a man was killed by a train at a level crossing in Heidedal, Bloemfontein.

This morning, around 07:30, the Heidedal police received a call about the train accident near the East-end Industrial Park. According to a statement from The Office of the Provincial Commissioner in the Free State, members of the community found the ‘dismembered body of a male in his mid-40s who was wearing a black jersey with white stripes’.

A case of culpable homicide for further investigation has since been opened.

“The victim is unknown, and we are pleading with the community nearby to assist in identifying the deceased to contact Heidedal Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Pule on 071 606 5715.”
