SHARPEVILLE – Six suspects have been nabbed in connection with a brazen business robbery, three counts of rape, a house robbery, and attempted murder. This is after a group of armed men stormed a tavern in Tshepiso Phase 1 on June 19 at approximately 23:00.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela says the men ordered patrons and employees to lie on the floor.
“The suspects robbed the victims of cash, cellular phones, and alcoholic beverages before one of the suspects allegedly raped three female patrons.
“They subsequently seized a silver-grey Toyota from one of the patrons and loaded the stolen liquor into the vehicle. Dissatisfied with the amount of money obtained, they proceeded to the residence of the complainant’s father, situated a few houses away, where they forced entry and demanded money.”
Maxambela reveals that during the robbery, a 63-year-old victim sustained two gunshot wounds to his right leg. Cash, bank cards, and a plasma television were stolen before the suspects fled the scene.

Maxambela confirms that the injured victim was transported to Sebokeng Hospital for medical treatment, while the survivors of the sexual assault received medical care and support through the Thuthuzela Care Centre at Kopanong Hospital
“Through a thorough investigation and follow-up operations by members attached to the Sharpeville SAPS, the Trio Task Team, the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS), and the Local and Provincial Criminal Record Centres, the six suspects were arrested in connection with the incident. Further investigations are underway, and additional arrests cannot be ruled out.”
The District Commissioner of Sedibeng, Major General Nkhensani Mukwevho, commended the members involved for their swift response and dedication in ensuring that those responsible for the gruesome incident are brought to book.
