FREE STATE.- A stock theft case is being investigated by the Heilbron Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit after a case was opened at the Steynsrus Police Station.

Police said that according to the 54-year-old complainant, who is a farmer and resides at Somerset Oos Farm, a shortfall was noticed during livestock counting on Saturday, August 29, at Rietvlei Farm.

The complainant alleges that the initial count on Friday, August 28, was a total of 186 sheep, but when the counting was conducted on Saturday a total of 45 sheep could not be accounted for.

Police said that the combined directed value of the missing sheep is estimated at R151 000.

It is alleged that some of the sheep were found on the Steynsrus-Arlington gravel road, sparsely placed, with their throats slit.
