SEDIBENG. – A case has been registered against the people that have been going around selling land in the area as this is illegal.
This they apparently do under the pretence that their organisation has won a land redistribution claim. This information was revealed to Sedibeng Ster by members of Wildebeesfontein Evaton Community Organisation (WECO) who also tell this newspaper that they are the rightful winners of the land distribution court case that has been dragging on for years.
They say that an order has been handed out by the high court that the land that they have claimed should be given back to them (WECO), this include land in areas such as Evaton, Sharpeville, Sebokeng to as far as Heidelberg and Soweto.
“We are just awaiting investigations into other claims that have been made on the land that will be completed soon so that a Trust can be opened for our people. Community members must be aware that they are the ones who are victorious in this matter,” says Solom Mthwalo who is the Chief of WECO’s royal committee.
Mthwalo says that WECO’s victory is for the people and that they will be holding talks with major companies in the area to see how they are going to compensate the community for the land that they have been operating from ‘illegally’. “This is the land of our people and they are also going to be consulted as to how we are going forward. The land needs to work for them,” Mthwalo says and adds that WECO is also busy with cases of illegal evictions by unscrupulous ‘sheriffs’ and ‘wild demands’ of payments of rates and taxes from the Emfuleni Local Municipality.
Those claiming to be victorious in court and going around selling land have been requested by WECO to come out and show how big a land they had claimed, provide proof of the court order and its supporting affidavits. “No land will be sold. Instead our people will benefit from it,” WECO members say in unison.
WECO holds its meeting at the Zone 13 sports grounds at 10:00 every Wednesday and Saturday and community members are requested to attend these.
