Police search for a second body in Henley-on-Klip drowning incident
The SWPDS has suspended their search operation due to poor visibility.
Search teams are looking for a second body following a tragic drowning incident involving two men in Kidson Weir, at Henley-on-Klip on October 22. Police reported that a strong water current swept the two men away.
Divers from the Sedibeng Water Policing and Diving Services found the first body trapped between rocks in the river on Thursday.
“With assistance from the Midvaal Fire Department, members established a rope system across the water to facilitate the safe recovery of the body. The deceased was identified as an unknown white male, and the body was handed over to the SAPS members at the scene for investigation,” police said.
The search resumed this morning but had to be halted shortly afterwards due to poor visibility. Police confirmed that team members will visit the scene and downstream areas daily until the second body is found. Authorities are also investigating two separate water-related incidents in Ekurhuleni and Sebokeng.
“With warmer weather and the rainy season increasing the risks associated with rivers and dams, the public is urged to exercise extreme caution near water. People are strongly advised to cross rivers only at designated bridges and to avoid entering fast-flowing water, as strong currents can sweep people away within seconds,” police said.
Inquest dockets have been opened for investigation.
