SHARPEVILLE. – The principal of Matsie-steyn- Primary School – Majane Nhlapo – says that the discovery of packets of ‘dagga’ on school premises has put a certain carwash into disrepute.
Nhlapo says the stash was discovered during school holidays while she and another employee were doing round checks in the school. “The packets of dagga were hidden in the palisade fencing of the school right beside a very busy car wash.”
Nhlapo adds that she is highly disappointed in the owner of the carwash as well as the people that work for him. “The people that come to the carwash urinate in the school yard; they drink and throw bottles inside the yard and worst of all, they are now selling drugs right where the children play during break time.”

Nhlapo stated that all of these things would impact the children in a very negative way. “We want an environment that is free of any negativity. These are young children and we all know that primary school is an important phase in preparing the children for their future.” Ward 13 Councillor, Bobby Tatae says, “It is really disappointing to see this happening in our community. We are trying to support small businesses because of the unemployment in the country, but if small businesses start influencing our children negatively they must be dealt with.”
Tatae stated that he would take steps to involve the various stakeholders to deal with this sensitive matter as the lives of young children are at stake. “We will also let the Municipal Bylaw Unit deal with the matter,” Tatae concludes. The Sharpeville Police have also been alerted about the matter.
