
Police in Mahikeng arrested a middle-aged Botswana national on Friday, 19 August 2016 at Masutlhe village for Possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle and an unlicensed firearm.
The suspect was arrested after police received information about two suspicious vehicles that were being chased by members of the South African Defence Force (SANDF) from Mabule village towards Mahikeng along Bray road.
The police reacted to the information and proceeded towards Masutlhe village where they blocked the road. The vehicles, a Toyota Hilux and a Toyota Run-X with Botswana registration numbers fitting the description given were spotted.
According to the information, upon seeing the police, the suspects changed direction thus leading to a car chase. It was during the chase that the Toyota Hilux overturned and rolled several times. The driver managed to get out unharmed and was apprehended while trying to escape. The suspects from the other vehicle managed to flee on foot. It was during the arrest that the police managed to confiscate a firearm from the suspect.
The suspect is due to appear in the Mmabatho Magistrates Court on Monday, 22 August 2016 for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle and illegal possession of unlicensed firearm.
