GDE upset by the heart-breaking death of a worker at Die Fakkel High School

“We wish to convey our deepest condolences to the family, friends and the entire school community. This is an unfortunate situation to happen in our school,” said Lesufi

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) offers its heartfelt condolences to the family of the General Assistant (GA) worker at Die Fakkel High School in Forest Hill, South of Johannesburg who was shot dead yesterday morning, Monday 04 December, by burglars.

It is alleged that a caretaker heard some noise in the school and ran to the GA who resided in close proximity to the school for assistance. Sadly in the process the GA was shot dead by the burglars.

The GDE says in a statement MEC Panyaza Lesufi has received with sadness the news of the death of the GA.
“We wish to convey our deepest condolences to the family, friends and the entire school community. This is an unfortunate situation to happen in our school,” said Lesufi.
The department is providing the necessary support and counselling to the employees, family, educators and the learners. We have dispatched our psycho social team to the school to provide trauma debriefing to all affected by this unfortunate incident.
MEC Lesufi will visit the family of the deceased today.
