Heidelberg Hospital in dire state

The late payment of service providers is impacting negatively on stock delivery at the Heidelberg State Hospital - now has to ask help from other hospitals in Sedibeng District

The late payment of service providers is impacting negatively on stock delivery at the Heidelberg State Hospital, to the extent that this hospital now has to borrow from other hospitals in the Sedibeng District, or refer patients for medication.

This is according to a report by Patricia Baloyi, DA Councillor in the Sedibeng District Municipality, who recently conducted an oversight inspection to the Heidelberg Hospital, which is situated in the Lesedi Local Municipality within the main Sedibeng District Municipality. “We discovered that the hospital was in a state of neglect. The casualty area doors do not close properly and there is no ultraviolet lighting, which is used in hospitals to control infection. As a result, there is a high risk of patients being infected with TB and other serious di-seases,” she says.

She reports that another issue is the lack of ventilation, which results in windows having to be left open, which is also not conducive to patients’ health. There is also not enough road signage to direct patients to the hospital from the N3, Ratanda and the road from Vereeniging. “The neglect at Heidelberg Hospital is just one example of what citizens in the Lesedi area have had to contend with under the ANC administration. Citizens should not have to suffer while ANC officials are only concerned with enriching themselves. It is time that they vote for a party that cares about their well-being,” says Cll Balloyi.
