Thirteen people killed, nine injured when bakkie and car collide

Thirteen people were killed and nine others injured last night following a collision between a bakkie and light motor vehicle on the N12 between Fochville and Westonaria.
Russel Meiring of ER24’s Communications Office reports that paramedics of this emergency service, along with other medical services, arrived on the scene after 20:00 to find that a bakkie and light motor vehicle had collided. They fouond numerous bodies scattered around the scene as well as trapped inside the two vehicles.
Paramedics assessed the patients and found that five people from the light motor vehicle and eight people, including children, from the bakkie had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead.
Nine other people were assessed on the scene. Six people, including young children, were found to be in a critical condition while three others had sustained minor to moderate injuries.
Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, three of the critically injured patients, one being a young child, were airlifted to nearby hospitals by the ER24 Oneplan Helicopter, as well as two other medical helicopters. The remaining patients on scene were transported by ambulance.
The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
