SEDIBENG. – Police are searching for one of the suspects implicated in a house robbery at a plot in Oranjeville.
Police spokesperson, Constable Josephine Gani, said the owner of the house, Ronie Brand (68), heard a window breaking. He rushed to check, before he was confronted by two suspects pointing at him with firearms.
The incident happened at Letsatsi Plot 10 at around 6:30am.
When he told the suspects he does not have money, they started to assault him.
Ultimately he told them that there was money in his silver Isuzu bakkie.
The suspects took the keys and cellphone before they tied him with ropes and covered his mouth with a blanket. They later fled the scene with the victim`s bakkie.
According to the bystanders, they saw a bakkie on high speed on the direction of Heilbron, passing near Zamdela squatter camp on R57.
They said the driver was alone in the vehicle, when he lost control at the curve and went flying into the air.
Police said a 42-year-old male suspect died at the scene and the second is still at large. The driver was found about 70 metres ahead from where the bakkie came to a standstill.
Brand later managed to untie himself and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
