VEREENIGING. – A frustrated property owner has once again approached this publication for help, after the yard of her block of flats has been flooded with sewage water.
In May this year, the owner complained that her tenants were struggling to go in and out of the building as there was a pool of sewage water lying at the front gate.
Last week, the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) had to once again deploy people from the Electrical Department to the block of flats in the Vereeniging CBD to fix electrical cables which were flooded by the sewage water. “It is very difficult for my tenants coming in and out of the yard.

“This problem has persisted from February and it seems that they have not been able to fix it. Visitors can’t park in front of the gate. The smell is terrible and people cannot cross the street without walking through the sewage.”
The owner has since been in talks with the ELM to try to find a solution to the problem. ELM Media Liaison Officer, Chuchi Radebe, previously said that the blockages were as a result of a main line that collapsed. “We are busy conducting a clean up in all the flooded areas in the affected areas. We hope that the matter will be resolved soon.”
