Rape, mob justice and murder

DE DEUR.- A man died after he was beaten to death following allegations of rape in De Deur recently.
It is said that a 26-year-old woman was walking to Caltex garage in the De Deur area to submit her curriculum vita (CV) when she came across the unknown man who asked her where she was going to. He offered to walk with her and suddenly the man took out a knife and instructed her to comply with everything he said or else he will kill her. Fearing for her life she did exactly what he asked of her.
De Deur Police Spokesperson, Constable Pieterse said that the two walked to the unknown man’s place of residence at Sobukwe informal settlements next to Tshepong where he opened his shack and instructed her to get inside and not utter a word.
“He locked her inside and a few minutes later returned with a cold drink. The terrified female was instructed to undress and the unknown male then raped her for several hours without using a condom. When the ordeal was done he locked her inside and left.
Pieterse said that the woman managed to escape through the window and screamed for help.
“This is where members of the community came to her rescue and chased the perpetrator. Police were called to the scene on their arrival they found the suspect lying on the ground and his upper body covered with rocks. He had injuries all over his body as he had been assaulted by the furious members of the community.”
The man was certified dead by paramedics, cases of rape and murder have been opened and are being investigated.
Police are discouraging members of community from engaging in acts of taking the law into their own hands. Anyone with information that can assist the police in the investigation is requested to contact De Deur SAPS.
