This was initiated by Sedibeng Ster journalist, Zacharia Nale, and Tasunga Baninga came on board to help the struggling families.
Norma Mbele from Tasunga Baninga said they couldn’t fold their arms when there was a need for them to help.
Mbele who is a humanitarian, feminist and activist said the vegetables were donated by COVID-19 Gauteng Civil Society Food Security Working Group.
Some of the families who received vegetables included that of former soccer great, Johannes “Satch” Modise. The families that received vegetables said they came at a time they desperately needed something to eat. Elizabeth Masella who is a pensioner said that she didn’t expect the donation as it came as a surprise.

“I want to thank you bana baka for your selflessness because we were starving as my children and grandchildren depend on my pension money,” she said.
Mbele said her organisation will continue to assist these families beyond the lockdown period.
“I make this commitment to take care of these elderly people and let them be part of our beneficiaries. I want to thank Sedibeng Ster for not only writing stories about our community but also being involved in their upliftment. We have a passionate team of volunteers who are committed to serve those who are in need,” she said.
Tosunga Baninga worked with other partners in Johannesburg.
Meanwhile, one of the well-known entrepreneur, Lawrence Khekhe, also donated grocery to the soccer legend.
