ELM to conduct disconnections for lockdown non-payments

In a statement ELM said they will be disconnecting customers with outstanding balances and no formal payment arrangements.

Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) has thanked residents for the payment of municipal accounts during the national lockdown, however they have also issued announced that on Monday, July 20th they will be disconnecting customers with outstanding balances.

“Customers are therefore urged to visit the Revenue Department for arrangement to avoid disconnection,” ELM Communications Department said in a statement.

Reacting to the warning local business man Klippies Kritzinger said ELM should be ashamed of itself. “You are self centered, NO SERVICES, NO STREET LIGHTS. If I worked for ELM I would hide it from my family. I want to warn you: WE ARE COMING FOR YOU…. YOU WILL BE WITHOUT JOBS AND SALARY SOON. The community are GATVOL for your incompetence. Your service centres are the WORST in the country. WATCH THE SPACE….We are planning the END.”

A resident from CW2 Motlomelo Abia Selemela commented: You want us to pay but CW2 electricity is off every week, last week we stayed 3 days without electricity”.

Izolde Pistorius urged the municipality to send them their updated statements. “Didn’t receive mine this month… if you want people to pay, please send them accounts? It’s the least you can do!”
