Vaal Uprising stalwart departs

SEBOKENG.-  One of the famous Vaal activists, ANC Veteran and Delmas trialists, Naphtali Mbuti Nkopane is no more. Nkopane died of natural causes at the Sebokeng Hospital on Tuesday, aged 76. In 1984 Nkopane was active in the rent protests in the Vaal, Vaal Uprising, as a result of which he was detained. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, his son, Bishop Marumo Nkopane,said that his father was arrested with the likes of Popo Molefe, Thomas Manthata , Mosiuoa ‘Terror Lekota’ and Moss Chikane in the Delmas Trial. “He has worked with Comrades like Reverend Gift Moerane and Sol Tsotetsi at the Vaal Council of Churches. He was also the Chairman of the then Vaal Civic Association and worked with Comrades such as Isaau Raditsela,” said Bishop Nkopane. The deceased will be buried on Tuesday, 18 August, his birthday. The funeral service will be held in Zone 3, house number 564027. The service will start at 9:00 to 11:00. For more information call 081 560 5863
