Digital pay-per-view channel set to collaborate with top South African artists

While stages and theatres in South Arfica remain empty because of restrictions on public gatherings, an emerging digital initiative could offer a platform to local entertainers.

Artists and producers are being invited to sign up to perform and host their material on PlatformZA, an online portal that offers audiences the best of local entertainment available at any time. For performers and artists, PlatformZA is a collaborative concept that enables them to record their work in a high-end studio environment to ensure the best possible quality.

Audiences will be able to watch their performances live or recorded online by purchasing tickets for shows hosted on the platform. PlatformZA is looking to host and record a wide variety of artistic work, from musical performances and sitcoms, to theatre and stage performances. “PlatformZA serves as a hub where artists and productions can engage with one another.

Using this platform, artistic teams are connected to technical teams that produce online productions on a profit-sharing basis,” says Christiaan Ballot, one of PlatformZA’s co-directors and former Vaal resident.

“Programming by PlatformZA will ensure constant variety in the production of different genres. “The quality of productions will be at an international level. Audiences will have access to a wide range of productions through a secure payment system – all on one platform,” explains Ballot. The project is a partnership between Ballot and fellow co-director PieterJan Kapp.

Between the two of them, they have a wealth of experience producing local and international shows. Kapp says the idea behind the digital offering is a collaborative one, where PlatformZA will partner with artists to produce their work to a global standard to make their output an attractive proposition to audiences.

“The platform wants to make a free alternative available to the arts industry. Partners involved in the project work without fees and share in the revenue. “Although PlatformZA will launch its own marketing initiatives, the reach is so much greater because all partners are marketing the content together, bringing together various role players,” Kapp says. PlatformZA intends to go live in mid-September.
