Truck hijackers behind bars

The suspects will appear in court soon.

SEDIBENG.- Traffic officials have arrested three people accused of hijacking a truck. The trio were arrested on 26 August at around 13:20 along the R59. According to police spokeswoman, Sergeant Gertrude Makhale, members of the public stopped traffic officer, Petrus Moshatana, while on patrol and informed him about the suspected hijacking. Moshatana called for back-up and proceeded to where the informant had seen a Toyota Corolla with a Mozambican registration number plate used in the crime. Moshatana then saw the stolen Toyota Hino truck which fitted the description as the truck was proceeding in the opposite diretion. According to Makhale, the officer stopped the driver and established that he was one of the men involved in the hijacking. The man was then arrested. Law enforcement officials pulled over a Toyota vehicle matching the description the informant had given. The vehicle had been following the truck. Both of the suspects seated in the vehicle were arrested. Officials impounded both the stolen Hino truck and the Toyota Corolla of the suspects. In addition to this success a grey Toyota Fortuner was also recovered by Sergeant Beukes of the Sedibeng anti-hijacking team while he was assisting the officers with back-up. The suspects will appear in court soon.
