Community demolishes church
“The issue here is politics, the board is always playing open cards about the funds of the Center. We will try to engage Pastor Mpobole to resolve the matter. “We have a lease agreement with the church.”

SEBOKENG.- An angry community demolished the structure of the Emmanuel Ministries in Zone 10 Extension 1, Sebokeng last week. The demolishing followed after a decision was made at a meeting that was attended by Ward 31 Councillor, Phumzile Nxonxo who told the community that her hands were tied as the site where the church was built is not the municipality’s but belonged to nearby Lebohang Disability Centre.
This is after the community had complained about the illegal toilets that the church has built, and the ‘air and noise pollution’ that the church apparently causes.
Emmanuel Ministry has become famous because of its leader, Dr Prophet Paul Mpobole who is said to perform miracles with his exorcisms and revelations. Last week, as they trampled over the pulpit, and across the baptism pool, community members said that they did not fear his ‘divine retribution’. A board member of the Lebohang Disability Centre, Lehlohonolo Malindi said that the church had been renting the space from them, paying R 3 500 per month and that their contract is valid until end of March this year. “
The issue here is politics, the board is always playing open cards about the funds of the Center. We will try to engage Pastor Mpobole to resolve the matter.“We have a lease agreement with the church,” said Malindi. He further said that the community wants to benefit on all projects even with the money of the disabled. When approached for comment Mpobole said that a case of malicious damaged to property has been lodged with the police. He reiteriated Malindi’s statement that politics were at play.
“The issue here is politics. I am surprised that the Councillor was part of the meeting.” The church is currently using the Lebohang Disability Centre’s hall for its services.
