Taxi violence takes lives

“Three people were shot, two men died on the scene and one woman sustained injuries."

PALM SPRINGS.- Yet another taxi shooting took the lives of two people at the Palm Springs taxi rank, near Evaton on Friday.

Police Spokesperson, Sergeant Nombulelo Mahlakoana said that on Friday morning at about 07:45 at the Palm Springs taxi rank on Falcon Road, a silver BMW with three men inside came to the rank when one of the passengers climbed out the vehicle and started shooting randomly.

“Three people were shot, two men died on the scene and one woman sustained injuries. The deceased were a taxi owner who was a member of Vaal Wits Taxi Association who sustained 12 gun shots to his body and the other was a queue marshal who had sustained two gun shots to his body. The injured woman was just a bystander and had one gun shot. She was transferred to the Sebokeng Hospital.”

Mohlakoana said that police suspect that the motive of the shooting could be a continuing taxi violence within Vaal Wits.
“The suspects are unknown and the case is under investigation.”
