MIDVAAL. – The young girl’s lifeless body was discovered recently in an open veld near Sicelo flats.
Nthabiseng’s aunt Mapule Nthoesang says, “On Wednesday 21 April, we had been doing work around the house. Later, Nthabiseng took a bath and my mother (Nthabiseng’s grandmother) asked her where she was going and why she was taking a bath so late. I left around 19:00 to go to my house.”
Nthabiseng is said to have left a few minutes after her aunt and did not say where she was going.
Mapule says she was shocked when she received a call the following morning from a family friend who told her that there was a discovery of a lifeless body in Sicelo and she recognised the person as Nthabiseng.
“I thought she was at home because I left her there. I was shocked to hear that she had been killed.”
Mapule says the information they received is that Nthabiseng was allegedly raped and strangled.
“I don’t see us healing from this. We are deeply saddened by this incident. Our child did not deserve to die like this. I hope that the police will be able to make an arrest soon.”
The family said Nthabiseng was the seventh girl to be murdered in this manner and to date, no arrest had been made by police.
Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo says, “The Sedibeng District Commissioner Major General Zodwa Molefe is pleading with the community members of Meyerton to assist with information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrator who committed the gruesome murder.
“Anyone who last saw the person who was with the deceased before she was murdered or knows who murdered Ntabiseng must please come forward or contact Meyerton SAPS landline number (016) 360-4700, 082 822 7680 or detectives on standby number 082 778 7934.”
