Community seeks justice for murdered women in Midvaal

Demonstrators wore black and held placards displaying different messages against the killing of women.

MIDVAAL. – The Tsatsi Tseke Foundation together with Women in Motion and the community of Midvaal and surrounding areas held a peaceful demonstration at the Meyerton police station last week.

Demonstrators wore black and held placards displaying different messages against the killing of women. This was done in efforts to get the police to do something about incidents of Gender-based Violence (GBV) plaguing the community of Midvaal.

The demonstration follows the recent discovery of the body of 16-year-old Nthabiseng Nthoesang in an open veld near Sicelo flats. Nthoesang was allegedly raped and strangled. The community reported that Nthoesang was the seventh female to have been killed in this manner, adding that no arrests had been made to date.

Nthabiseng Nthoesang (16) was murdered and her lifeless body found in an open veld in Sicelo.

Tsatsi Tseke says, “The objective of the demonstration is to remind the police that although these young women have been buried, we still need to see justice prevail. The families need to get closure and see the perpetrators of these crimes brought to book.”

Tseke said they would hold these demonstrations until something gets done about the killing of women in the area.

Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo confirmed that the murder of Nthoesang was under investigation.
