EVATON.- The Wilberforce community came in great numbers to watch former soccer greats when Tembisa and Barney Sports Foundation’s Eleven played as curtain raisers for the masters soccer tournament final at the Conti grounds in Evaton over the weekend.
The Tembisa Masters team consisted of the former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs greats, Jerry Sikosana and Pollen Ndlanya, while Barney Sports Foundation Eleven was represented by the local former greats, Phiri Tsotetsi, Steve “Chippa” Lekoelea, Xolani Makhoba. Avril Phali, Sailor Tshabalala, Jospeh “China” Masondo, Fees Moloi and Joseph “Bingo” Nnete to mention but few.

Tembisa Masters beat the local former great 3-2 in the exciting game which left many believing that some of these former soccer greats can still hold their own in topflight football.
These former greats played as curtain raisers for the Barney Sports Foundation Tournament final between Mabaleng Masters and Qwebezela Masters. Mabaleng Masters were crowned the Barney Sports Foundation Tournament Champions after they beat Qwebezela 1-0 in the final. Mabaleng Masters went all the bank smiling with a R13 000 cheque while Qwebezela Masters received R6 000 for finishing as the runner ups.
City Stars and Picks Corner Masters each received R4000 for finishing 3rd and 4th place in the tournament while other four teams received R500. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Mphikeleli Nhlapo who was part of the organising committee said it was a great day of football with former soccer greats entertaining the supporters.
“We want to thank everyone who made this tournament a success especially the former professional players who agreed to be part of this initiative. I want to thank them because they brought excitement to the community. I must say some of them can still play at the highest level of football,” he concluded.
