Sapphire Learners taught about bullying, gangsterism and human trafficking

“Finish your education and agree with your parents to check with your readiness.”

BOPHELONG.- The Department of Health joined by the Department of Social Development and other stakeholders hosted the Child Protection Week campaign at Saphire Secondary School, in Extension 4 Bophelong, yesterday, 3 June.

This year’s theme was: “Let us all protect children during Covid – 19 and beyond”.

The main focus were based on types of substance abuse that includes bullying, gangsterism, verbal attacks, human trafficking and isolation.

Speaking about gangsterism, SAPS’ Captain Oujan Mohoboko of the Vanderbijlpark Police Station said gangsterism is part of bullying as young boys have a tendency to try to look smart and fancy through the expenses of getting involved in criminal elements.

Regarding the initiation school, Mahoboko adised that it’s better for pupils to get permission or communicate with parents before ending up taking a wrong decision of to go to the mountain.

“Finish your education and agree with your parents to check with your readiness.”

It  is said that the reason why the departments decided to choose Saphire school for the campaign is that some of the educators had recently complained of substance abuse and  bullying at the school.
