ELM’s ticking time bomb

"She has now given up on reporting the open green electric box posing danger in her street."

VANDERBIJLPARK.  –  A concerned member of the Vanderbijlpark community has come forward to say that the lives of their children are at risk. “We are sitting on a ticking bomb that could explode at any given time”. A 63-year-old, Poppie Meyer of Bogart Street said she has now given up on reporting the open green electric box posing danger in her street. Meyer said that it has been several years now since she has been reporting to the Emfuleni Local Municipality the danger that the open box poses. “They forever promise to send an electrician, but to date nothing has happened. I am worried that pedestrian are walking by that open box with no precaution.  Children are playing on the streets. Sometimes when it rains my concern is what if the box catches water and we will end up without electricity as the wires are live,” she said. Meyer who is struggling on wheelchair said she has been without electricity for four days. The matter was also reported to a resident known as Peter Verbeeck who always communicates with ELM for inquiry. Attempts to get comment from ELM electric department was unsuccessful. A driver of electric department referred Sedibeng Ster to report the matter to their offices.  He said that even though he might be aware of the open box, he will have to wait for a reference number to attend the complaint.
