Four motor vehicle theft suspects denied bail

"It is said that the other vehicle belongs to a SAPS member from Soweto."

VANDERBIJLPARK. – Four suspects appeared briefly in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates court today facing charges for possession of suspected stolen vehicles, jamming devices and various other motor theft tools.

This after they were arrested on Tuesday at around 18:40.

Police Spokesperson, Sergeant Gertrude Makhale said that police received a tip off, then made a follow-up that led them to a white Toyota Fortuner and Hilux apparently used in multiple theft in Vanderbijlpark, Sasolburg and Vereeniging.

Makhale said the Vanderbijlpark Task team, CPF and other law enforcement agencies made a quick response and the members tried to stop the other vehicle as it was driving reckless on a high speed without stopping. The suspects are said to have taken a direction to Sasolburg before a shootout ensued that brought their vehicle to a standstill.

“After they stopped the (one) suspected vehicle, it tested not having an owner(ship). All four suspects were apprehended. One suspect was transported to hospital under police guard. Police continued to search all vehicles and they come across tools and jamming devices used in the theft of motor vehicles, keys, sets of registration numbers and walkie talkies (two-way radios).”

It was discovered during the investigation that two suspects two are from Soweto, one from Orange Farms and another from Eldorado Park.  It is said that the other vehicle belongs to a SAPS member from Soweto.

The four were denied bail today, 17 September.
