50 kidnapped Ethiopian nationals rescued during operation

A 49-year-old is set to spend a weekend behind bars following kidnapping charges. 

GAUTENG. – This comes after the  suspect was arrested during an intelligence driven operation by Johannesburg Central Police.

In a statement, Police Spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili reports that police went to a house in Zacharia Park near Lenasia where  50  Ethiopian nationals aged between 12 and 50 were held against their will.

“It is reported that the 50 people, were brought into South Africa to be reunited with their families living in the country.

“On arrival the person who transported them demanded money from their families before their release.

“They are currently awaiting to be processed by the Department of Home Affairs. Some of their families have been notified,” she said.

The suspect will be appearing in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
