SEDIBENG. – With Bafana Bafana yet again failing to qualify to the FIFA World Cup, Mamelodi Sundowns women’s team made the country proud when they secured a spot in the Final of  the CAF Women’s Champions League.

The Tshwane side are through following their 5-4 penalty shootout win over Malabo Kings on Monday.

Sundowns’ Ladies had to hold their nerve as they held Malabo Kings to a goalless draw after 90 minutes. Penalties were then needed, and the Sundowns players kept their cool as they converted five penalties to Malabo’s four. They will play Hasaacas Ladies FC of Ghana in the final on Friday as they continue their quest to become the first African champions for the inaugural tournament.

Sundowns Ladies have represented South Africa with distinction in this women’s continental champions tournament which comes to an end in Cairo, Egypt. Sundowns won their first two opening games and played to a goalless draw to finish in their group and book their place in the Semi-final. Mamelodi Sundowns Coach, Jerry Tshabalala said that this is their biggest achievement not only for the club but also for South African women football. Tshabalala said that this is the beginning for South African women football to dominate African football, both at national and club level. He said Sundowns Ladies was inspired by Banyana Banyana’s recent achievements to do well in this competition.
