ELM’s ‘working committee’ appointed

Quality services and changed lives are amongst some of the promises that were made by the recently appointed Executive Mayor of the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM), Sipho Radebe, recently.

SEDIBENG. – Radebe made these promises during a Special Council sitting held on Tuesday, 14 December at the Vereeniging City Hall when he also presented a report on the Vaal Special Economic Zone.

He recommended that the ELM Council approve the lease of land to the Vaal Special Economic Zone and the Council approved.

Radebe also appointed his team, the Members of the Executive (Mayoral) Committee and expressed his trust on the team to lead ELM into a new trajectory of improving the provision of quality services and changing the lives of the residents.

“The 01 November 2021 Local Government Elections have ushered a new epoch in our new democratic dispensation.

“The voters mandated different political parties to work together and deliver basic services to our people without fail. We remain committed to serve our people working with all parties.” said Radebe.

It is said that the lease of land and the development of the Vaal Special Economic Zone constitutes a major breakthrough that will unlock the much-needed Investment and assist to fast-rack the designation of Vaal Special Economic Zone which is aimed at improving the economic situation of the once ‘better off’ Emfuleni (Vaal).

ELM Mayoral Spokesperson, Lebo Mofokeng said: “The members of the Mayoral committee will be advising the Executive Mayor on service delivery challenges, including accelerating service delivery backlogs, and attending to urgent matters on ongoing litigations, labour disputes, employee contractual uncertainties and other irregularities that need attention of the municipality working together with all ward councillors and political parties represented in Emfuleni Council to form the backbone of outreach programmes.

“As part of our commitment to work closely with all stakeholders, the municipality will present to Emfuleni residents the full roll-out plan on the implementation of the Section 63 of the 1996 Water Act and Vaal Special Economic Zone.”

““We must commit without fail to serve our people with humility, dignity, love and care. We remain hopeful that through prayers the Lord will grant us the necessary strength and wisdom to work as a collective in building a united and prosperous municipality that will prioritize provision of quality services,” concluded Radebe.
