Missing pets! SPCA share steps to follow

There isn't a day that goes by without someone begging for others to keep an eye out for the missing dog. This is how you should go about when your pet gets lost or you find a lost pet.

In one of the most recent incidents a missing dog was luckily found and reunited with its owner, but only after almost 20 days of being missing.
“The owner reported their 13 year old miniature pinscher as missing immediately after he somehow managed to escape from their property. They looked all over for their dog, placing ‘missing notices’ everywhere.
“Finally late last week someone brought him into our Vereeniging SPCA Branch and we managed to reunite him with his owners. A happy ending, but not all missing animals are this lucky,” says Manager of the local SPCA Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark, Marlien de Klerk.
What to do when you find a lost/missing animal:
– report the animal to your local SPCA and vets
– place flyers in and around the area you found the animal
– if you cannot keep the animal, take him/her to your local SPCA (the SPCA is normally the first place owners will look)
What to do if you lost your animal:
– report your animal as missing to your local SPCA and vets immediately
– visit your SPCA on a daily basis or make contact daily
– place flyers in and around your area
– place a post on social media
– inform all your neighbours
