SASOLBURG. – 192 vulnerable children in various schools across the Zamdela community were recipients of a donation made possible by Sasol, in partnership with the Free State Department of Basic Education (DoE), Tswelopele Foundation and Thuso Ya Rona Organisation.

The vulnerable children were identified by the Free State DoE in partnership with Tswelopele Foundation through various social development programmes.
On Friday, 21 January various schools received backpacks and stationery which includes books, flip files, diary, scissors, pens, pencils, crayons, oil pastels, erasers, glue packs, mathematics set, cooler lunchbox and a juice bottle per school backpack
Thuli Mbuli, Head of Community Affairs Sasolburg and Ekandustria Operations at Sasol said: “At Sasol, we always strive to improve the well-being of our people, including those from our fence line communities. It is especially important that we demonstrate active care for the vulnerable members of our communities. In this case, we have too many vulnerable and orphaned children; as well as child-headed homes in our communities – and we have a responsibility individually and collectively to care for, safeguard and develop them like they are own. It shows Ubuntu and it speaks to the popular South African saying that ‘it takes a village to raise a child’.”
“Today, because of this intervention, we are hopeful that these backpacks and stationery will ensure advantageous learning in the classroom for the learners. As Sasol, this is something that truly speaks to one of our core values and delivers on the promise to work with government and other strategic stakeholders to ensure effective socio-economic intervention in our fence line communities,” elaborated Mbuli.
In addition, Thuso Ya Rona Organisation is helpful in providing pyscho-socio support to vulnerable children in Zamdela schools.
