TRAC Science point schools launched in the Vaal

Ceramic Industries has partnered with TRAC South Africa, a national non-profit Mathematics and Physical Science intervention programme of Stellenbosch University.

SEDIBENG. – In each TRAC point, grade 11 and 12 learners form part of the programme. TRAC experiments for the grade 11 and 12 Physical Science curriculum, together with the associated worksheets are made available to the learners and educators who are part of the TRAC program.

The TRAC Science point Schools were launched at five schools in the Sedibeng Region that cater to kids from disadvantaged backgrounds. The programme caters to learners in grade 11 and 12 doing Maths and Science and aims to assist them in achieving the best marks so that they can further their studies and obtain qualifications in related fieds.

During the launch at Mohloli Maritime School in Sharpeville, represantatives from TRAC and Ceramic industries encouraged learners to work hard in order to have a chance to turn their lives around and achieve their dreams.

TRAC Regional Manager Beauty Kotela says, “As TRAC we come in to assist you to do well in Maths and Science. We realise that you can do ok by yourself so we come in and bring the equipment to assist you to do better. We want you to excel in your studies because we want you to further your studies at tertiary level. But you are the one who has to put in the hard work.”

Ceramic Industries CEO Tshepo Molefakgotla told the learners that their backgound did not have to determine their future. “You can achieve whatever you set your mind to, all you have to do is put in the work. I grew up in a four roomed house and today I’m here.”

Molefakgotla encouraged learners to choose careers that would still be relevant in the future, saying that Mathematics and Science would led into such fields.

“We don’t guarantee the funding to the programme, the people that guarantee funding is you. You need to make the programme successful by producing good results.

“We are not looking for mediocre, we are looking for the best.” HOD for Science at Mohloli, Margaret Molotsi thanked TRAC and Ceramic Industries for bringing the programme to the school.
