Over 1200 suspects arrested during weekend operations in Gauteng

The police in Gauteng arrested over 1200 suspects during multi-disciplinary operations carried out in various districts over the weekend.

GAUTENG. – Police Spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello says, “Various operations were conducted simultaneously in Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, Sedibeng and the West Rand.

The operation in Tshwane was led by the Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Girly Mbele.

“Suspects were arrested for various crimes including possession of unlicensed and illegal firearms, drunk and driving, dealing in drugs, possession of suspected stolen vehicles and undocumented persons amongst.”

Sello states that the operations were conducted with the support of different law enforcement agencies such as the Traffic Department, Tshwane Metro Police Department, Department of Home Affairs, Community Policing Forum, Tracker and Fidelity.

“The police also seized dangerous weapons, drugs, liquor, firearms, ammunition and impounded vehicles with tempered engine numbers.”

All the arrested suspects are expected to appear before various Magistrates’ Court.

The community is urged to work together with the police to fight against crime by reporting any criminal activities on Crime Stop Line at 08600 10111 and report anonymously on MySaps App.
