Taxi marshals fear losing their jobs

VTA marshals are facing a dilemma over their outstanding salaries.

VANDERBIJLPARK. –  The jobs of the queue marshals operating under Vanderbijlpark Taxi Association (VTA) are said to be hanging by a thread.

The problem is said to have started when the marshals demanded their salaries which are said to be long overdue. They told Sedibeng Ster that they were not aware that they were committing a sin when they approached the media to help them with the matter. At least ten marshals are being accused of bringing the name of the association into disrepute.

Speaking under the condition of anonymity, the marshals told Sedibeng Ster that they have not been paid for two years and that this problem started during the hard lockdown of Covid-19 in March 2020. They said that every time they tried to engage the association on the issue of salaries, they are taken from pillar to post.

“Since this pandemic we have lost furniture’s, policies and our accounts have been frozen.”

The workers said they ended up approaching the Labour Department and the CCMA to settle the matter but that nothing has changed.  Approached for comment, The Chairperson of the association said that he is aware of the matter He promised to meet this publication and try to reach a consensus with workers.
