Former soccer greats gatvol with SAFA – so is TOUCHLINE!

Recently SAFA, especially Danny Jordaan is under attack from former soccer greats who believe it is time for the 'winds of change' to blow at SAFA House.

SEDIBENG.-  Doctor “16v” Khumalo is one of the former soccer greats who not long ago poured his heart about the state of South African football in particularly SAFA. Khumalo was part of Bafana Bafana’s success when they were crowned the 1996 African Cup Of Nations and is of the opinion that SAFA must be run by former professional players like in other countries.

Khumalo mentioned former great such as Shakes Mashaba and Lucas Radebe among other former greats who need to be considered because of their experience.  Former Banyana Banyana player, Portia Modise also added her voice when she attacked SAFA for not taking women football seriously. Modise who was well known for her outspokenness during her playing days says that Bafana Bafana is the only national team in this country. The truth must be told, under Danny Jordaan as SAFA President, it is like our football is moving backwards with Bafana Bafana failing to qualify for some major tournaments. As this is not enough, shooting from the hips, Doctor Khumalo believes that Pitso Mosimane was a relevant person to coach Bafana Bafana but he was set up to fail.

TOUCHLINE always maintains that we don’t need European coaches for a number of reasons and one of the reasons is that they have done lots of damage to our football. They bring their own European mentality here and turn our players into robots. They come and kill our talent.

TOUCHLINE blames PSL clubs’ bosses who still believe in those coaches regardless of how much our local coaches have proven themselves. Pitso Mosimane has proven PSL clubs’ bosses wrong especially those who still believe that these European “plumbers” are better than local coaches. TOUCHLINE agrees with the former soccer greats that winds of change must blow in the direction of SAFA House if we are serious to compete against the best in the world.

The problem with South African football is a lack of vision by those who run our football especially those at SAFA House. In the past SAFA was a force to be reckoned with when the likes of Solomon “Stix” Morewa (May his soul rest in peace) and Dr Molefi Oliphant were there.  These two transformed our football after South Africa was readmitted in the international sporting arena. Sadly, recently Bafana Bafana can only win the COSAFA Cup and not other competitions.

The good thing is that, South African Masters and Legends Football Association (SAMLFA) which consists ofth former professional players are leading in front to bring changes in South Africa football. They are ‘gatvol’ with the current SAFA leadership especially Danny Jordaan who under his leadership our national teams have  failed to qualify or win any major tournament.
