VAAL OEWERS.- A Vervet Monkey was recently found trapped with a snare around its neck.

In a Facebook post, the SPCA Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark said they received a distressed call about an injured Vervet Monkey near Vaal Oewers caught in a snare.

“Without hesitation our team responded and rescued the Vervet Monkey and took him to a local veterinarian for examination.”

The SPCA states that snares are on the rise, local land owners and farmers must remain vigilant to the presence of snares on their property and at their boundary fences.

The the animal welfare organisation urged land owners and farmers to remove any active snares that they may see, and to report the presence of any snares to the SPCA so that they can contribute to mapping the areas commonly snared.

Anyone who sees a wildlife in distress, is urged to contact the SPCA offices on 016 422 1505 or 083 292 5862 after hours.
