Mother doesn’t believe that son was deliberately locked inside classroom at Selborne Primary in Vereeniging

The mother of a 6-year-old Grade R learner at Selborne Primary School in Vereeniging refutes claims that her son was locked inside the classroom for hours as a form of punishment by a teacher. 

VEREENIGING. – This is after the boy was found inside a classroom around 20:00 on the school premises after he was reported missing at the Vereeniging police station.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, the mother said that her son fell asleep in the class.

“I believe that the teacher’s mistake was that she did not check properly.  I’m so grateful that my son was found safe. This incident is a result of a human error.

“I was accompanied by members of the ccommunity this morning and on arrival we met with representatives from the Department of Education.”

The woman said she is happy that her child is getting the help he needs in getting through the ordeal.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Maria Letsele says, “The mother reported her child missing at Vereeniging SAPS on Monday evening afterwhich a search ensued.

“The boy was later found by police working together with security.”

Police spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela confirmed that the boy had since been reunited with his family.
