Gauteng government kicks the year off with back-to-school program

A positive start to the 2023 academic year for Gauteng learners following a successful back-to-school program.

SEBOKENG. – The Gauteng back-to-school campaign was recently carried out at Katleho Impumelelo Secondary School in Sebokeng. The program’s objective is to determine the state of readiness as the 2023 academic year begins.

The program began with motivational talks from delegates who visited Katleho School, and was addressed by Katleho School Principal Lucas Maqakelane.

Head of Department from the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARDE) Matilda Gasela gave advice to learners at the school on how to achieve academic excellence.

“You are the future of this country. You are the scientists and doctors of tomorrow. It is critical that you know. It doesn’t matter where you come from.

“The fact that you grew up in a shack does not define you. What matters is what you want to become tomorrow,” emphasized Gasela in her motivational speech.”

During the program, dignity packs were handed out to some of the kids at the school, followed by the planting of seeds and trees by the various delegates.

The department said the objective of planting fruit and vegetable seeds was to enhance food security at the school, as well as making food gardens for destitute children and their families as a way to assist them in difficult times.
